green chili apple pie

i was highly recommended to try this pie. it sounds so gross, but it actually tastes really good. so i now highly recommend it to you.

6 cups peeled and sliced granny smith apples (6-8 medium)
1/2 cup roasted and peeled green chiles, chopped
juice of 1/2 lemon
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon allspice

1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons butter, diced in small pieces

Streusel Topping

Combine apples and chiles in a large bowl. Add lemon juice, sugars, salt, cornstarc

h and spices. Gently toss to combine. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Place crust in buttered pie plate. Spread grated cheese over bottom of crust. Fill with apple mixture. Pour any juice remaining in bowl over apples and dot with butter. In a medium bowl, combine streusel ingredients and blend with a pastry cutter or use your fingers. Sprinkle over apples.Bake 15 minutes at 425, then lower heat to 375. Bake 30-45 minutes more, until apples are

firm but cooked through (check with a fork). Cover pie with foil if topping gets too brown. Let cool at least 4 hours (if you can stand it) before cutting

the filling completely mixed

Simple pie crust

spreading grated cheese on the crust

bottled green chilies

placing the chiles in the roaster and torching them w/ fire for 3-5 minutes. or you can place them in the oven on broil. watch until it gets a little black and crispy.
then place in a garbage bag and close in an ice chest for 30 mins to let it steam.

pull the skin and seeds off the chiles (bucket on the right has skin and seeds in it)

rinse the chiles

fill pot approx. 1/2 full of water and add 2 cups of vinegar. add chiles and bring to a boil. then fill jar with this mixture and add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of salt. then place your jars in a steam bath for 15 mins.

chicken wire frames

FIRST: get a frame, any shape any color
SECOND: if you don't like the color, paint it.

THIRD: if you want to make it rustic, sand it down.

FOURTH: cut the chicken wire to fit the frame then use a staple gun to attach the wire.

FIFTH: hot glue felt around the frame to over the wire ends for protection, add something for hanging.

perfect rustic look for hanging bows, pics, or notes.

a couple of weeks ago juliette, my mom, and i drove by the gila valley temple. unfortunately that's all we did... drive by. i got to see it being built a year ago on my way to an EA game, so it's fun to see in real life the final building. i'm very excited for the gilbert temple's ground breaking next month!

slowly... but surely

Ok... so me and burton have been super busy w/ school. so we haven't done much in the trailer. here's a pic from us gutting it out. we got rid of all the carpet and the vinyl under the carpet. also we got rid of the booth seats and table. this way we will have more space and can use a folding table and chairs when needed.

adding bling to my keys

now i have ended up w/ leftovers. so i thought i would add a keychain to bling up my keys.

printing on canvas @ home

this is way fun & EASY. i found this idea somewhere online, but i can't remember where. i was so excited because i have been interested in printing on fabric for a long time.

all you need is...
fabric (something thin like cotton, this will be going through your printer)
adhesive glue spray ( i used craft bond)
ink jet printer
artwork or a photo on you computer

deciding what to print was the hardest part for me. i found my art print on the website they have several prints to download for FREE. then i added my last name and the year i was married to personalize it. now take your cardstock and spray one whole side with craft bond. make sure to get the corners. then quickly place it on your fabric.

cut the fabric to be the same size as the paper. make sure there are no frayed edges (your printer will not be happy if there is)

now place your fabric/cardstock in your ink jet printer. FABRIC SIDE DOWN.

when it comes out peel the fabric off the cardstock

and there it is! i added "life is a Journey" sticker, heart stamp, and pink fabric rosettes. i love it.
