green chili apple pie





i was highly recommended to try this pie. it sounds so gross, but it actually tastes really good. so i now highly recommend it to you.

FILLING
6 cups peeled and sliced granny smith apples (6-8 medium)
1/2 cup roasted and peeled green chiles, chopped
juice of 1/2 lemon
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon allspice
crust for 9-inch pie
1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons butter, diced in small pieces

Streusel Topping
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup flour
pinch salt
4 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup pine nuts (i used pecans)


Directions

Combine apples and chiles in a large bowl. Add lemon juice, sugars, salt, cornstarc

h and spices. Gently toss to combine. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Place crust in buttered pie plate. Spread grated cheese over bottom of crust. Fill with apple mixture. Pour any juice remaining in bowl over apples and dot with butter. In a medium bowl, combine streusel ingredients and blend with a pastry cutter or use your fingers. Sprinkle over apples.Bake 15 minutes at 425, then lower heat to 375. Bake 30-45 minutes more, until apples are

firm but cooked through (check with a fork). Cover pie with foil if topping gets too brown. Let cool at least 4 hours (if you can stand it) before cutting
